The TP-Link MC220L is a Gigabit Ethernet media converter for network installers and small businesses extending a copper Ethernet connection over fibre. It converts between 1000BASE-X fibre and 10/100/1000BASE-T copper, making it useful for linking equipment across buildings or connecting a remote network segment.

Its SFP slot supports a hot-swappable module, so you can select fibre hardware to suit the link. The RJ45 port supports Auto-MDI/MDIX and auto-negotiation, while status LEDs help you check power and link activity. The unit can sit on a desktop or be installed in a compatible TP-Link TL-MC1400 chassis.

Compatibility

For the fibre connection, use a compatible Gigabit SFP module and the matching fibre type; the module determines the wavelength and maximum fibre reach. The RJ45 side supports Cat 5, 5e or 6 UTP, or EIA/TIA-568 100Ω STP, up to 100 m. Good to know: an SFP module is not listed in the package contents, and fibre reach depends on the module selected; TP-Link does not guarantee that every third-party SFP module will work.
