The TP-Link TL-WPA7617 is a powerline Wi-Fi extender for people who need to bring a wired or wireless connection to a room with a weak signal. It suits households with an existing compatible powerline adapter and devices such as a smart TV or game console that benefit from a wired connection.

It carries network data over your home’s electrical wiring using HomePlug AV2, with speeds of up to 1000 Mbps and a stated range of up to 300 metres. Dual-band AC1200 Wi-Fi provides up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. A Gigabit Ethernet port supports wired connections, while Wi-Fi Clone and Wi-Fi Move copy and synchronise your router’s wireless settings across the powerline network.

Key features

• HomePlug AV2 powerline networking uses existing electrical wiring to extend network access.
• Dual-band Wi-Fi supports wireless connections on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.
• The Gigabit Ethernet port connects wired devices such as TVs and game consoles.
• Wi-Fi Clone copies your router’s network name and password at the press of a button.
• Wi-Fi Move applies wireless setting changes across the powerline network.
• The tpPLC app or PC utility helps manage the powerline network.
• Pair button security uses 128-bit AES encryption for the powerline connection.

Compatibility

Compatible with HomePlug AV and AV2 powerline adapters and Wi-Fi routers. Powerline devices need to be connected to the same electrical circuit. Good to know: this is a single extender, so a compatible powerline adapter connected to your router is required to form a network; one is not included.
